I was looking for an agent that could give me a great deal on both my home and auto insurance. After two weeks of looking I found Allen-Duncan Agencies who saved me over $600.00 on my house and $700.00 on my auto insurance. Everyone in the office was nice & professional and I highly recommend them to anyone else.

We contacted Melissa Duncan last year when our homeowner’s policy increased quite a bit with our previous insurance company and allowed her to quote our home in Merritt Island, our autos, and my motorcycle policies. Between all three policies, we saved $1550.00 a year. The savings on our home was $1000 alone. Since then, she has reviewed our homeowner’s policy with us again and suggested a wind inspection since our roof was replaced in 2004. We have been very pleased with the service and savings.

I’ve been with several of the “big name” insurance companies in the past, and always felt like I was getting ripped off. Going with an independent agency allows me to shop for reliable and quality insurance at an affordable price. I like the personalized service I get at Allen Duncan, and I know the agents there are working for my best interests.

I’ve always been happy with the service Allen-Duncan Agencies has provided, so last year when they told me I could save money on my homeowner’s insurance by getting a wind mitigation inspection, I scheduled an appointment and had the inspection done. It saved me about $600.00 a year on my insurance and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you so much Allen-Duncan Agencies.

Helpful Tips & Links
One way to potentially save a substantial amount of money on your homeowner’s insurance is to have a wind mitigation inspection done by a licensed inspector. This inspection is done on your roof, your roof connections, and any other “hurricane proofing” done on your home such as wind resistive glass or hurricane shutters. The inspector will get up on your roof and will also need access to your attic to see how the shingles & wood are connected to the house. The inspection can’t make your insurance any higher and most of the time it will result in a discount, especially if your roof has been replaced since the building code was changed in 2002. The discount can be anywhere from $75.00 - $1000.00 depending on what company you are with, your current premium, and the inspection form. The discount is good for the life of the policy. The inspection can cost you anywhere from $75.00 - $150.00 depending on which inspection company you use. Just call any home inspection company and ask them how much a wind mitigation inspection is, make sure they are licensed to do the wind mitigation inspections, have them do the inspection, bring or send in the mitigation form into the agency, and enjoy the savings.
FOUR POINT INSPECTIONS
Another way that you can potentially save some money on your homeowner’s insurance is to have a four point inspection done on your home. This especially applies to older homes such as homes over 40 years old. There are lots of insurance companies that will only insure these older homes if everything on the house has been updated and you have one of these inspections done. The “four points” are the plumbing, the heating and air conditioning, the electrical, and the roof. Some inspection companies will package together the four point inspection with the wind mitigation inspection and give you a special price for getting both of them done at the same time. Once again, whatever inspection company you use, make sure they are licensed with the state of Florida. Please contact us and we will let you know if having a four point inspection done is the right way for you to save money on your homeowner’s insurance.
CENTRAL STATION ALARM
One more discount available on homeowner’s insurance policies is a central station alarm discount. If you have a security system that is centrally monitored (meaning that it notifies an outside agency if your alarm goes off such as ADT or Brinks), if you provide us with a certificate of installation from the alarm company it will result in a discount on your homeowner’s insurance. The discount can be as much as $150.00 per year but is usually not as high as the alarm companies tell you it will be. Don’t just have the alarm installed to get a discount on your homeowner’s insurance as the discount will not outweigh the monitoring fees you will pay for the year.
HURRICANE SHUTTERS
In order to receive a discount for having hurricane shutters installed, you must have a wind mitigation inspection done now. Companies will no longer accept paperwork from the shutter installation company. Please see wind mitigation description above.
OTHER DISCOUNTS & REDUCTIONS IN RATES
Some homeowner’s insurance companies will provide discounts for things such as the age of the oldest insured (over 55), everyone in the household being a non-smoker, the age of your roof, or living in a gated/secured community. You can also qualify for a multi-policy discount by having more than one policy in our agency. Be sure to check into that possibility with one of our agents.
Another way to reduce costs on your homeowner’s insurance although not recommended is to raise your deductibles. Your all other perils deductible can be raised as high as $2500.00 and your hurricane deductible can be raised as high as 5%. The amount of the discount varies with each company. Please call us to find out approximately what your savings would be. In order to reduce costs even more, some people even choose to delete the personal property replacement cost from their policy as well. We are always happy to discuss the pros and cons of any changes you might want to make to your policy and give you all your options.
